So I'm curious. How bizarre did some of your reminder cards get? Did anyone not take them all at face value?

[She has valid reasons to ask, trust me. Selfish Nami-is-pissy reasons, mind, but that's what happens after you've spent a week with a scattered crew and a comatose chef and a mallynapped swordsman and find yourself playing babysitter to a bunch of people who really ought to know better, not looking at you, Perona. Also there's an anniversary coming up she really wished she hadn't still been around to see.

[Aside from these possibly redundant plottin shenanigans, Nami will be in her usual haunts: the mikan orchard in the afternoon and Good Spirits in the evening. Though around noon she's gonna drop in to Seventh Heaven (or if it's still closed, wherever Sanji is) to check on him. Just to make sure things are, y'know, okay now. Because mad cooking sprees are kind of a cause for alarm. Moreso than Sleeping Beauty syndrome. Back atcha, chef.

Also, Zoro, hurry up and come home. She wants to have words about certain balancing games played. *_*]

[For a moment, she looks at Nami quizzically, not sure what she means. Then...] Oh, that's right.

[It hadn't been too long after Vivi had first arrived that the mikan grove appeared, and she'd almost managed to forget that it wasn't always here.]

For the better, do you think?

Definitely. It's a lot less of a pain in the ass, that's for sure. [Whereas Nami is thinking of other memories. But the orchard always gives her a good reason to come out this way.]

[That's a little hard to imagine. Then again, while she's been in Luceti for about a year and a half now, Nami's been here even longer.]

What else was different then? [Her tone is light, not wanting to drag the conversation into anything too serious. She is curious, though.]

Demons and supervillains everywhere. You couldn't take a walk without having to dive for cover. [Despite the nature of that comment, Nami is totally deadpan.] Made things interesting, I suppose.

[Ah. It occurs to Vivi now that she probably misunderstood what Nami meant by that first comment--not that she couldn't make the trip because the mikan grove wasn't there yet, but because it was dangerous to walk the distance.] Oh, come to think of it, I do remember you warning me about someone not long after I first arrived. [Yuber, to be precise, but he hadn't caused any major trouble after her arrival, and not too long after, it seems he was sent home. She shakes her head lightly.]

It's a little hard to imagine, having to be that wary of other people here, not just the Malnosso.

I'm glad it isn't an issue now. I mean, there's a couple of warnings for new people that have just arrived, so...I guess you've always got to be careful. The problem is the Malnosso have no quality control.

[She quirks a grin.] After all, they let Smoker in here.

Smoker-san isn't that bad.

[But she still giggles.]

[Nami giggles too. But concedes the point with a nod.] He's become less of a pain in the ass recently. Do you know, the first time I was here, he quit his job as part of an experiment? So I took it on instead.

I made him call me Commodore Nami.

[Vivi's eyebrows go up in surprise, but her look soon becomes amusedly curious.] Commodore Nami. Was that part of an experiment, too?

[Leaves crunch softly beneath her feet as Vivi crosses a small pile of them. With the changing of season becoming so hard to ignore, she can't help being aware that she'll be going through her second winter here--coming up on her second year living in Luceti. Soon she'll have been here longer than she was undercover in Baroque Works. Put like that, it seems almost impossible to believe.]

Iiit might have been. [Nami's coming up on her third year here. She's trying not to think about that too hard.]

Everyone was taking a different career that week. Doesn't change the fact that Smoker officially made me a Commodore, though. What a pity he no longer remembers.

[Vivi cants her head slightly.] He doesn't remember?

[She's seen Smoker go home and return from a later point in time, just like much of her crew, but she'd been under the impression his memories of Luceti were all intact when he'd returned.]

Nope.

[Then after a moment, she realises why Vivi might be confused.] The Smoker we have now-- well, he was here for a few months right at the start of our being here, before he left. When he came back, he didn't remember anything. But he's remembered everything since, if that makes sense.

Oh, I didn't realize... So he forgot his earlier time here. Like Brook-san.

[She's encountered this phenomenon before, but Brook is the example at the forefront of her mind, considering his return without previous memories marks the first time it had happened with anyone she was relatively close to. Vivi can't see any rhyme or reason to it--probably there is none to be found. Her smile turns a bit wistful. Though she knows it's not his fault, it hurts a little, her nakama not remembering who she is at all.] Have you seen a lot of that? Friends, or...whatever you would call Smoker-san, returning without remembering being here before?

A few times. Most recently, Guy... [Her smile turns softer without quite meaning for it to, before she glances up.] Have you met him? He came to the house while I was sleeping, anyway.

He went home early last year. He came back earlier this year and had forgotten everything, then went home again... and came back recently having remembered his first visit but not his second.

And a few friends of mine are much the same. Alexei's been here twice. Zoro's... been here three times, never remembering.

[Guy. She'd seen him around, heard him mentioned a few times, but...] We've never spoken properly yet. [And she doesn't miss that subtle change in Nami's expression, though she doesn't take it for anything more than fondness for a good friend.] Are you close? It must be nice to have him...back. [Not quite the right word, but she hopes Nami will know what she means by it.]

Oh, that's right; I'd nearly forgotten about Mr Bushido. [He'd left not long after she'd first arrived, and not he'd been back so long it was easy to forget that at first, he hadn't remembered either. Alexei is a surprise, though.] Alexei-san too? I had no idea.

Guy's a great friend. He's been here-- or well, he was here before I was for a good year, I think. He's good company...

...we go back. [Heh.] Same with Alexei-- we were better friends the first time round.

This time round, he threatened me. We didn't get off to a real good start.

[Vivi nods as Nami speaks, about to remark that she'd have to make sure to properly introduce herself to Guy--then that last revelation takes her by surprise, and she missteps, almost stumbling over a tree root.] Alexei-san? [She sounds more incredulous than she means to. Alexei has always struck her as too stiff and serious--overly formal, really--and she certainly wouldn't expect him to introduce himself with threats.]

What happened?

Ahh... nothing serious. [She waves hands in a quick denial, mindful of that note of incredulity.] But he's a very cautious man with a lot of history on his mind. When a girl runs up to a guy like that and hugs him and claims to know everything about him, that's... kind of disconcerting, I guess.

I mean yeah, he was a jerk about it. But at the same time, he never carried through on it.

Ah, in that case... [Okay, put like that, she suppose it makes more sense. If Nami approached Alexei in a really familiar way like that, with no idea he now saw her as nothing more than a complete stranger...] Yes, I suppose I can see where that would have taken him aback quite a bit.

And you've worked things out again, right? So no harm done.

Yeah, no harm. I think, weirdly, we can thank Bellemere-san for that... they got on well. [Her voice quietens a bit at the name, but she's still smiling.]

[Vivi answers that smile with one of her own.]

I can understand that. She's an amazing person, Nami-san. I'm glad I got to meet her.

...me too. As an adult, anyway. She was proud...

[She trails off. It still hurts to think of Bellemere having been here, but it's not one she minds suffering. But let's find a less delicate subject.]

...anyway. Alexei and I have got on reasonably well since. He made the first real pinwheels for the orchard.

[Vivi offers a nod as Nami trails off; she may not know exactly how it feels, no, but she understands. She smoothly catches the conversational hook Nami dangles.]

Did he? I didn't know that. [She laughs lightly, but with fondness.] That's not something I would've expected...I suppose he's a surprising person.

I met him first when-- [She pauses, casting back over a year to their first encounter, trying to remember where they'd all been at the time. Ah, yes; Nami hadn't been around then, still captive of the Malnosso herself.] ...it was when I was returned, after the first time I'd been kidnapped. He helped me get home. [A journey made difficult, if not impossible, to make on her own thanks to the condition she'd been returned in. A scant few inches high, she'd encountered Alexei in the forest and he'd carried her home.]

[She ducks slightly, pushing up a low-hanging branch along their path. Strange how far away that time seemed now.]

I think I remember you telling me that. [Either that or Alexei did, she can't remember. She reaches up to take hold of the same branch as Vivi moves on, lowering it back gently behind them.] I wasn't there at the time, was I? [She has a feeling she was on a mission or with the scientists, or... oh wait.]

That's right. I was being a magpie at the time.
