[Nami's had quite enough of sleeping. It's kind of disconcerting to be told it's now September, and it doesn't help that she's spent the time since Ling's rude wake-up call still sleeping most of her day away. So tired, all the time. Prone to falling asleep mid-shower, and that is annoying, to say the least.

Oh, well. A week has gone past and she can finally get through most of the day with no problems, so Nami takes advantage of the fact that there is no Chopper to tell her otherwise (and no Katara or Law at the house at the time) to sneak up to the orchard and see how it's fared in her near-two-month absence.

...huh. Been hot lately, she sees. And a lot less mikan up here than she was expecting. Nothing too alarming, and the place seems okay otherwise, pinwheels and all. Someone even fixed her cottage door, lookit that.

Welp. Observant villagers might see the low-lying rainclouds to the northeast of the village, a tiny little storm that barely covers an acre. It's too hot today anyway, may as well take advantage of the fact that she can cheat.]

Thanks, whoever fixed my door. Did you take some of the fruit as payment or should I blame someone else for that?

I had noticed the dry spell. I did my best to tend to all the plants, but its hard when you don't know the lay of the land very well. I'll be more mindful in the future, Nami. I would be remiss in my duties if such a lovely orchard withered.

Well, that's reassuring to hear. [She's now completely at ease, given Saori isn't behaving like the uh...other psychopaths Nami's had the misfortune to know. |D] I always worry about the place when I'm not here.

I know Ororo, yes, but...I'm not a mutant if that's what you were going to ask.

[A teasing smile, she's glad you're loosening up Nami]

[She shakes her head.] No, no.. I mean Luceti has a lot of different kinds of people here. Humans, gods, everything in between ... you just reminded me of her, that's all. She was up here earlier. [For much the same reason, haha.]

Yes, I imagine she would be drawn, the same as myself. Ororo and I are alike in that. When she arrived we had a long talk.

[She quirks her head to one side and smiles]

And, if you were wondering, I am a god, of storms and wind and rain. I'll definitely make it a point to look after your orchard next time, since you're so friendly.

[Closer to Thor than Storm, then. Nami smiles helplessly. So many powerful people keeping an eye out for her orchard. It's sort of amusing and nice at the same time.]

Now, can you satisfy my curiosity? How does your machine work?

Ahh... it's chemistry. [She pulls the three climatact sections out from their holster.] It's a mixture of bubbles that produces heat, cold, and electrical charge... as long as I know the elements that make up a shift in weather, I can reproduce it on a small scale, and kind of tweak it a little.

Oh, so you change the weather with science. Thats...interesting.

[She eyes the climatact suspiciously]

Can you demonstrate? I'd be curious to see it work.

Hmm... I can show you something small. [Seeing as it's already raining overhead. Nami holsters two of the sections, holding the last one up.] Producing wind, for example.

[A bubble appears at the hollow end, drifting up lazily into the air. Nami gives it a few moments, then reaches up with a fingernail and pops it. There's a small gust of wind just strong enough to ruffle Saori's hair.]

Oh, that's cute!

[She lets it flow around her, and then decides to be cheeky, gathering the air current and twisting it back on Nami, returning the favor!]

Ah--! [She looks disconcerted for a second, and then breaks into giggles.] Well, that's one way to keep cool. You make it look so easy.

Oh yes it is! I've never needed a fan, or an air con!

[She laughs out loud, glad to have made the girl giggle]

So...why do you grow so many mikans? Thats what kind of trees these are, right?

That's right. [She's pleased that they're recognised. Not many villagers know what they are straight off the bat.] To begin with, they sort of turned up as part of one of the Malnosso's experiments, but... this orchard is very similar to the one I grew up in. I looked after it in the experiment because I thought it was mine, and I just... kept doing so, I guess. It's a reminder of home.

...that, and I love mikans. [She smiles.] Harvest will be soon.

I love them too, they're really common where I'm from. My friend and I live near a mikan grove on Shikoku, a wild grove with really old and tall trees. Its like home for me too, though you've got a lot less brambles, which is good.

Ahaha... we had a lot more brambles a few weeks ago, I'm told...

[Sheepish smile. But she does think to ask.] Where are you from?

Ah...well that's no fun.

[A bright smile follows] I'm from Japan, a country with four islands. Shikoku is the island where I live, but I'm from Kyushu originally.

Oh, I'd wondered. I know Japan has mikan... all the people who knew what they were are either from there or home. It sounds like a lovely place.

It is, its very beautiful in spring, summer and fall. I...don't care for winter much though.

Where are you from, then?

I'm not a big winter fan either. [She grins.] I don't really have a name for the world I come from. But my home ocean is East Blue, and my crew and I are travelling on the Grand Line. Or we were, before we came here.

East Blue? Are there...many oceans?

Five. There's North, East, South, and West Blue... my world is mostly islands and ocean. There's only one continent, but it rings the world. And through the middle of it all is the Grand Line, which is the most dangerous and unpredictable ocean of them all.

And most of the land is islands. That makes sense...

What makes the Grand Line so dangerous?

The weather and geography there don't obey the normal laws of nature. Nobody knows what causes it, but a compass won't work; the magnetic fields are so crazy that the weather out on the oceans is extremely unstable. You can literally go from summer to snow within a day. Unpredictable cyclones and unpredictable wildlife, and sea monsters a hundred times the size of your ship.

It's... different.

[Saori's eyes are positively shining with delight at the thought. That would be an amazing place. The most amazing! All the weird weather, and adventure and...]

It sounds like a truly spectacular experience. Why are you sailing on it?
