[Nami's had quite enough of sleeping. It's kind of disconcerting to be told it's now September, and it doesn't help that she's spent the time since Ling's rude wake-up call still sleeping most of her day away. So tired, all the time. Prone to falling asleep mid-shower, and that is annoying, to say the least.

Oh, well. A week has gone past and she can finally get through most of the day with no problems, so Nami takes advantage of the fact that there is no Chopper to tell her otherwise (and no Katara or Law at the house at the time) to sneak up to the orchard and see how it's fared in her near-two-month absence.

...huh. Been hot lately, she sees. And a lot less mikan up here than she was expecting. Nothing too alarming, and the place seems okay otherwise, pinwheels and all. Someone even fixed her cottage door, lookit that.

Welp. Observant villagers might see the low-lying rainclouds to the northeast of the village, a tiny little storm that barely covers an acre. It's too hot today anyway, may as well take advantage of the fact that she can cheat.]

Thanks, whoever fixed my door. Did you take some of the fruit as payment or should I blame someone else for that?

Yeah, she is! She actually stopped running it because she wasn't able to be that involved in it anymore.

Well, she'd been doing it a long time. Good for her. And the Welcome Centre could probably do with some fresher perspective.

Be careful, though. Not every New Feather is all that nice.

That's true. And it's for the better sometimes for people not to overload themselves with things to do. She still helps out without being in charge, though.

Thanks, Nami. I'll be careful. I've been warned in the past about being careful with people. [He remembers the Tobi incident. ...And it won't be long until he's part of the Loki drama.]

Ahh, well I didn't mean to lecture you. [Nami just knows from experience. Stupid place.] You're bound to meet a lot of very nice people, too.

It's okay, I didn't take it as a lecture. Luceti just takes all kinds of people. A lot of them are real nice!

That they are. And they well outweigh the terrible ones. And the terrible ones tend to advertise themselves well ahead of time, come to think of it... saying "You filthy humans!" is kind of a giveaway.

You're right, they are kinda dumb like that! [He laughs, even though he knows from the example of Tobi that this isn't always the case. He then goes on jokingly.] Come to think of it, you never say anything like that, Nami, so I guess it's okay to trust you.

I'll take your word for it, Nami. You're trustworthy enough that I believe you when you say you're trustworthy!

...yes. Exactly. [Aang, you're kind of adorable. And a dork.] How are things at home, anyway? Anyone new turn up?

Yeah, actually! You remember Ikki, right? She came back just yesterday! With her memories and everything! And Korra's friend Bolin got here the other day, too.

Hah, I don't even know who Korra is. I'm clearly out of the loop. [She likes Ikki, but there's a certain point that comes to mind.]

...are you happy to have Ikki back?

Well, Korra's another person from the future. You should meet her sometime. She's the new Avatar!

I never thought I'd see Ikki again. So I am happier than ever to be able to spend more time with her. [But not necessarily that she's here.]

I'll have to meet her then, definitely.

...how does being the Avatar work? Is it hereditary?

It's... it's a spiritual thing. There's a cycle, an Avatar from one nation is reincarnated from the previous Avatar of another nation when his or her l-life ends.

...oh. [Well, that's...morbid.]

How...far in the future is she?

[There's a pause, and then he speaks quickly.]

Seventy years. She's... she's 17. [Pause] She's very nice.

I'm sure she is. [And she smiles.] It's a long way away, Aang.

[He gives a soft smile as well. It doesn't get rid of all his anxieties about the future, but it helps him to focus on the present.]

I know. And I'm still here, in the presents of great friends.

Really great friends. You've got some keepers there.

Definitely. And I keep making more. It's one of the good parts of this place. [They help him to feel so alive.]

I hear you there. I'm not a fan of Luceti at all, but I'll miss the people I met here. Be nice if I could just visit them once I leave.

I agree. I'm the Avatar after all, so I want to see if I can find a way to get through to other worlds. [Pause] At least... I want to be able to hold onto the memories of all you great people and the fun times that were only possible here.

Maybe one day we'll find a way of being able to go to and from Luceti any time we want. [It's the goal of all Nami's nefarious plans, anyway.] That'd be kind of awesome. We could use it as a meeting place... and the people who've died at home would get to stay here.

[Mixed feelings about. Most of what she says sounds hopeful. Like a way to hold onto all the friends he made here, like Nami and Shikamaru and Silver. But the part about dead people... it sends a chill down his spine. Because it's something he wants, something he'd really want. He could only dream of coming here to see Gyatso again, or Kuzon or Jet. And... it'd work both ways, too. His family would be able to see him again. Katara wouldn't ever have to see him for a last time.

Except that... this plan sounded a lot like being a god.

And he couldn't stay here forever.]

That would be a really neat idea, Nami, especially if we could stop that war from happening. If only it really were possible for everyone to live happily forever here.
